"I think the foremost quality-
there's no success without it-
is really loving what you do. ~ Malcom Forbes
I love my job! Yes, I said it and I mean it, I LOVE MY JOB!! There are many blessings in a lifetime that one can be thankful for. But how many of us can count one blessing of having a job for nearly 15 years, that you love? I'm one of the lucky ones. Yes, there are days, when I ask, REALLY??? There are days when politics, egos, unseen lines and emotions get in the way. The main focus is and will continue to be, bringing quality jobs to our citizens, and building wealth and prosperity in Chambers County. Often I have found that if I focus on that one thing, that 99% of the time these "issues" will work themselves out.
I give thanks to longtime community leader, servant and CCDA Board member Mr. Richmond B. "Richie" Terry. I can't begin to describe to you what he meant to me professionally and personally. Mr. Richie was a true servant leader. He taught me that you could be a brilliant business man and still have compassion and community in mind. He taught me that with compassion, and an understanding that "this too shall pass", that your heart would help you in making the right decision for the greater good. Mr. Richie also allowed me to stumble along the way, never criticizing or saying "I told you so" but rather "what did we learn from this Val?".
There have been some great leaders who served on our Board here and I am eternally grateful to them for their service. Former Board members such as Mr. Bobby Jones, Mr. Bo Royal, Mr. Richie Terry, Mr. Bubber Johnson and Mrs. Mary McKnight, made me love my job. Serving today with our current Board of Directors makes me love my job and strive do a better job everyday. Working alongside Tammy Johnson and Kimberly Fuller make me love my job.
I am grateful for a wonderful Board who accept my imperfections and guide and direct me to learn from those mistakes and move on. I am thankful for a wonderful husband, 2 awesome girls and such a supportive family and network of friends who accept my imperfections as well, and most importantly accept that my job is part of me, part of my life and that I so much like my father, "work all the time." Loving what I do, makes it even more better!
In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. May 2013 bring us all many blessings and opportunities!
