County Commission pays tribute to local law enforcement officers
LaFAYETTE — The Chambers County Commission took time out from Monday's regular meeting to pay tribute to local law enforcement officers in the wake of multiple police deaths in recent days. An emotional District 6 Commissioner Debbie Wood said the commission had asked representatives of local law enforcement agencies to be present for the meeting.
"We're not used to waking up to bad news every day," Wood said as she choked up. She shared passages from a devotional by Max Lucado, who said that the root of the world's problems is anger.
"We don't know how hard your jobs are," Wood told the officers. She said people should not allow their hearts to be angry. "We want to let you know we appreciate you," she told the officers. "We know that some of you are fearful and that others in our country are fearful. We want to pray for you."
