Existing Industry Spotlight: TREC

There are currently 905 electrical cooperatives in the United States. One of those cooperatives, Tallapoosa River Electric, is proud to call LaFayette home. Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative was established in March of 1939 with the first 400 miles of line being energized in September later that same year. From that humble beginning nearly seventy five years ago, TREC has grown to have 3,812 miles of line located throughout Clay, Randolph, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Lee, Russell, and Barbour Counties in East Central Alabama. The company’s main offices are located in LaFayette, Fort Mitchell and a warehouse in Mellow Valley.

 TREC provides dependable, competitively priced electricity, free energy audits, free residential power quality audits, and free HVAC design to its members.   Some of the key staff members involved in their success include: Parker Goodman-Manager of Engineering & Operations; Louie Ward-General Manager; Kenneth Smith-LaFayette District Superintendent; Mike Johnson- Fort Mitchell District Superintendent; Phillip Martin- Mellow Valley District Superintendent; Melanie Brown-Manager of Financial Services; Kevin Hand-Member Services Representative; Wanda Brushwood-Manager of Consumer Accounts.

            As part of TREC's commitment to its members, TREC along with other electrical cooperatives that are members of the Alabama Rural Electric Association (AREA) publish a monthly magazine for their members’ enjoyment.             Also as part of their commitment to our local community, TREC sponsors six $1,000.00 scholarships each year for local seniors. They provide civic safety and educational programs throughout the year for citizens as well. TREC is heavily involved in local schools and has a Kids Korner section on their website specifically dedicated to the education of children on electricity.

TREC has been a Platinum Sponsor of the Chambers County Development Authority for the past two years and works hand in hand with the organization during the recruitment process of industrial, commercial and retail projects into Chambers County.
