Goodbye to this Year's VHS Interns
For the past 3 years, the CCDA has participated in the Valley High School Business Volunteer Program. This program allows students to earn school credit through a volunteer class where they have an opportunity to intern at a local business in the county. Through this program the CCDA has the opportunity to mentor one student each semester. Each day the student comes to the CCDA where they will have a short daily lesson with Kimberly educating them on our community and state. The students also have the opportunity to participate in industry tours at local manufactures throughout the county and attend events hosted by the CCDA. “This is an opportunity for them to gain some awesome real- world experience in the workplace and being professional”, says Fuller of the CCDA. The students also have an opportunity to construct a working resume, a cover letter, and newspaper articles with the guidance of the CCDA staff. “I think the program is phenomenal and I am so glad we have a chance to be a part”, Gray stated. Just a few events the interns have participated in are as follows: CCDA Existing Industry Luncheon, Point University Business Fair, Farm City Tour, CCCTC Industry Tours, Valley Visions Week, Community Crossroads Articles, ED 101 Course, and many more. The CCDA feels it is critical for students to see firsthand what a job is like and what you have to deal with in the working environment on a daily basis. We are proud to be a partner with the other local schools in Chambers County as well.
