Charter Bank was established in 1954 with a mission to help neighbors with loan needs to buy their first home. Their mission statement: “Charter Bank strives to create value for our customers with outstanding convenience, customer friendly products, and spirited, time valuing service; to earn trust and loyalty of our employees through consistent application of our values; and to provide superior returns for our stakeholders.” Charter Bank is a full service community bank with ten operating branches located along the I-85 corridor. Charter Bank opened its first Alabama Branch in 1978. Currently it has fifteen banking locations in three different states.
Charter Bank is solid, strong, and growing. It has helped customers to realize their dreams of home ownership for over a half a century. In 2004, Charter Bank celebrated its 50th year anniversary of providing great customer experiences. Now, Charter Bank credits their customers in helping them realize corporate dreams. Today with the expansion of services, Charter Bank has added seven new office locations in three new markets. Charter Bank provided customers with almost anything they could ever want from a banking institution. They offer free checking, student 4.0 ,saving accounts, certificates of deposits, FDIC insured, safe deposit boxes, commercial and mortgage loans, online bill pay, mobile banking, online bank statements, mortgage pre-approval, and a brand new website with all sorts of features to ensure that it will be easy to use and convenient for customers. Charter Bank has become known for their WOW factor attitudes, a few of these include the Doodlebug Hole within the bank that entertains children in a bright, safe area while parents do their banking and also the Charter Café where customers can brew specialty coffees, teas, or cappuccinos. Charter Bank also allows students to participate in the Honors Savings Club which was established in 1996 by the Charter Bank board of Directors. This savings club allows students to earn up to $1,500.00 during their four years in high school if they make all A’s each semester. Charter Bank also provides customers with the Spinning Penny machine, which will automatically count, sort and calculate the totals of your coins and spare change on site.
Aside from banking, Charter Bank is also heavily involved in the community. Along with many of their employees serving on boards, committees, organizations, and non-profits, Charter Bank also oversees the Charter Foundation. The Charter Bank Foundation was created to give local grants towards helping community & economic development, human & social needs, environmental, conservation & enjoyment, and cultural & artistic projects. Last year, the Charter Foundation was able to give our more than $361,000.00 in grant to local projects or organizations. Just a few of the organizations that have benefited locally from the foundation include: volunteer fire departments, the hospital, nursing homes, cities, Circle of Care, Literacy Volunteers of America, rescue squads, senior centers, etc. Being a part of good things happening in the community is very important to Charter Bank. Over the last ten years, through the foundation, Charter Bank has been able to provide donations totaling over 23 million dollars to worthwhile projects and scholarships throughout the local communities. Charter Bank is a 2012 Gold Level Sponsor to the Chambers County Development Authority and is also a member of the Greater valley Area Chamber of Commerce. Currently Mr. Bob Johnson, CEO of Charter Bank serves on the CCDA Board of Directors and is chair of their finance committee. In 2007, Charter Bank underwrote a new state of the art Women’s Center at Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, AL. The Charter Bank Women’s Center is currently open and helps many women throughout the area with medical needs.
