"Chris Clark Grading & Paving...Getting a Little Involved"

on February 24, 2012

When you live in a community for most all your life, there are many things you tend to overlook. One of the things that many people don’t think about is that most of the roads we drive on everyday were paved by a local individual right here in Chambers County. In a meeting I had with Chris and Denise Clark a couple of months ago, I questioned how they got their start in community service and being good corporate citizens. Chris quickly explained to me that his wife Denise never does anything in little quantities. When Chris gave Denise the suggestion many years ago to get a little involved in community events, she took it to a new level.

Chris Clark Grading & Paving has been in business since 2000. This family owned and operated business got its start from Chris’s mentor, DuWayne Story. Chris has completed many projects in Chambers County just in the past year including Zaxby’s, South 5th Avenue in Lanett, the Valley Shopping Plaza, and the new Lanier Medical Pavilion just to name a few. The most recent project that Chris Clark and his crew have completed that has significant value to the County and CCDA, involved the completion of the new five lane industrial access road through the Cusseta Industrial Park. Chris and his employees worked diligently with the County Highway Department as well as the CCDA and State of Alabama to complete the new road, landscaping, and right of ways in a timely manner. “The company has always been professional and a pleasure to work with”, Valerie Gray, Executive Director of the CCDA stated, “Whenever they do a job, you know it will be done right.”

The company has also received the Safety Certificate from the ASIWC Alabama Department of Worker’s Compensation for an Accident Free Workplace for the past eleven years. In 2000 and 2004, Chris Clark Paving and Grading received the Trucking Company of the Year Award from Vulcan Materials.

The behind-the scenes partner of Chris Clark Grading & Paving is Denise Clark. Denise is well known in Chambers County for her ambitious attitude and willingness to give of her time to help others. Denise is the past president of the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce as well as the Chair of the GVACC Membership Committee. Denise has also been involved in several other committees including the Chambers County Relay for Life Committee, Alabama Sheriff’s Girls Ranch Christmas Dinner Planning Committee, Farm City, Cattleman’s Association, etc. In addition to their volunteer work, there are a number of organizations that the company has donated to over the years. It is definitely no secret that this family has been a key player in helping with Chambers County events. As Chris told us, getting a little involved has gone a long way. On top of owning a successful grading and paving company, the family also owns Designs R Us, a monogramming shop located in Valley, AL. Chris and Denise have also allowed this business to sponsor and support community events as well. As with any locally owned business, the CCDA is proud to have Chris Clark Grading and Paving part of our county. Chris and Denise are great examples of community leaders both within the private and public sector. Chambers County is proud to have such a respected company right here at home. True passion for both the county and also the citizens living here lies within this company and as Chris Clark told us in our discussion about their community involvements beginning, “be careful what you wish for!”
